Taking Suggestions
posted by Elise at 7:55 PM ........................................................ 13 Comments: said... I'd like to suggest Midnight Moon by Clyde Watson and The Hungry Little Caterpillar by Eric Carle. both are children's classics. Midnight Moon is a beautiful little paperback that has just recently been re-issued after being out of print for more than twenty five years, and Carle's book can be found in just about any format to suit your fancy. 6/24/2006 10:43 PMElise said... Many thanks. We have gone through the Hungry Caterpillar and it's companion piece, the Lonely Firefly but perhaps there is more of Carle's work. And I'll see about tracking down Midnight Moon. 6/25/2006 7:54 AMsaid... The Very Busy Spider and Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? are two great ones by Eric Carle. 6/25/2006 11:21 AMsaid... I have no kids of my own, or any nieces or nephews yet, but I remember from my babysitting days that "There's a Monster At the End of This Book" was always a hit. It's practically a performance piece, especially if you're doing Grover's voice (which is really the only way to read the book properly!). 6/25/2006 2:53 PMsaid... Hi Elise, Elise said... Many thanks. Felix is 16 months old, though I am happy to gather things at higher "age" levels (for my sake as well as his). 6/26/2006 8:47 AMsaid... He's probably too young for The Little Prince, but you might get it early. 6/26/2006 8:44 PMsaid... I'll seccond the votes for Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? (the first book my daughter memorized) and The Monster at the End of This Book. Also, the books by Todd Parr (Otto Goes to Bed, Otto Goes to School, and The Feel Good Book are darling, and the brightly colored pictures make the books fun for kids to "read" on their own. 6/27/2006 1:04 PMsaid... I also have to add the Kevin Henkes books: Chrysanthemum, Sheila Rae the Brave, Owen, Julius, Baby of the World, etc. etc. They're very cute and funny, and if you look closely at the pictures, there are little in-jokes for parents too. 6/27/2006 1:07 PMElise said... Oh thank you so much. Keep them coming. The Bank Street Bookstore was sadly doing inventory this weekend, so you find me still pulling my hair out over the same old stories. 6/27/2006 3:28 PMsaid... My son loved the Sandra Boynton Books, all of them, but especially Barnyard Dance and Pajama Time. Her illustrations kind of leave me cold, but the words are so wonderful and musical and fun to read. I find I mind reading them a zillion times less if they have that musical quality. There are two by Karen Baicker that have it too, Yum Tum Tickly and Snuggle Me Snuggly. Oh, and Baby Danced the Polka by Karen Beaumont-- my son's favorite book for months. said... Eric Carle has a plethora of good books easily found at any bookstore. Also, "More, More, More Said the Baby" by Vera Williams, "Goodnight Gorilla" by Peggy Rathman, and "Don't let the Pidgeon Drive the Bus" by Mo Willems are some favorites I've given to my niece and nephew. I'm not a mom (yet) but have loved your website for years! Thanks for this interesting blog. 6/28/2006 11:19 AMgef said... hey elise ........................................................ |
